The Iran-Eurica Institute, as the only Iranian institute specializing in European affairs including both the European Union and individual European countries seeks to provide a platform for expanding knowledge and sustaining dialogue with Europe. To this end, the Institute intends to organize an annual conference in cooperation with universities and research centers.
In line with this objective, the first “National Conference on Relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Europe” was held in mid-March 2024, with the participation of a large number of university professors, current and former ambassadors, researchers, and students specializing in European studies.
The articles presented in this volume were selected from among a large number of papers submitted to the conference. These articles examine the ontological dimensions of Iran-Europe relations, as well as the current state and future prospects of their broader trajectory. They also explore Europe’s status and position within the international system, taking into account variables such as NATO and the issue of European strategic autonomy.
The role and impact of issue-specific variables such as sanctions and human rights, third-party actors such as China and regional countries, as well as certain European policies including technology export controls and reducing dependence on fossil fuels on bilateral relations and their future prospects are also examined.
