Alireza Nader, a senior analysts at the Think Tank think-tank, has spoken of the mistaken assumptions made by the Trump government against Iran and has argued that the Trump government’s actions not only jeopardize the effectiveness of the agreement, but it is unlikely to change Iran’s regional policy or Iran’s government Drop from inside.
The Trump government has taken a series of aggressive policies against Iran, including nuclear disagreement. The US “new” US policy on Iran seems to be further sanctions against organizations such as the Revolutionary Guards. Critics contend that new sanctions will not only not bring about improvements, but will also contribute to Iran’s growing influence in the Middle East. Both hypotheses are wrong.
The success has been effective in limiting Iran’s nuclear program, a fact acknowledged by the IAEA and the other parties to the agreement, namely, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China. The Trump government’s actions not only jeopardize the effectiveness of the agreement, but it is unlikely that they will change the regional policy of Iran or weaken the Iranian regime from within. The Iranian economy is likely to be damaged by new sanctions in the United States, but the losers are not the largest Iranian losers, but Iranian people.
The Revolutionary Guards are responsible for the vast expansion of Iran’s influence in the Middle East. Iran is the first power in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Tehran also has significant influence in Afghanistan and even in relatively remote countries, including Yemen. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps plays an important role in the Iranian economy. Therefore, sanctions against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps may seem to help alleviate Iranian power in the Middle East, but this is not true. Money and capital are not the only motive of the Revolutionary Guards in shaping regional policies of Iran. Instead, the combination of revolutionaries, fears of foreign enemies, Iranian nationalism and regional instability has increased the Revolutionary Guards’ success in the region. Iran was able to expand its regional power even under the most severe sanctions imposed on the cause. Given the ability of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to mobilize Shiite forces, Iran does not need billions of dollars. New sanctions in the United States are likely to undermine President Hassan Rouhani’s efforts to liberalize the economy.
