At the beginning of the meeting, Dr Hossein Gharibi, pointing out the need to recognize the right-wing extremist movements and the new populist movements, pointed out that a thorough understanding of these currents should lead us to answer the important questions ahead: what is their nature, characteristics and plans? What is the reason for the shift from anti-Semitism to Islamism? What are the strengths and influences of these groups and, finally, to what extent do these groups reach the ceiling for power?
In his presentation, Mr. Nourbakhsh, while expressing the differences and similarities of traditional, moderate, and extreme right, explained the roots and factors of the rise and growth of extreme right currents in Europe. Mr. Nourbakhsh said that the new radical right-wing ideology in Europe is politically similar to Nazism and fascism, and therefore, in the years after the end of World War II, we witnessed the absence of this trend in the political scene of European countries. In fact, the first and second wave of this political movement, which was formed during these years, did not succeed for various reasons, including the bitter experience of European countries from the war and the racist nature of these parties, but the third wave, which covers the eighties to the present, is due to some Changes such as the abandonment of biologic racism have been successful.
Mr. Nourbakhsh pointed out that extremist right-wing parties have the same characteristics as opposed to the European Union, foreign terror, anti-immigration and the emphasis on national values; however, they can not necessarily be identical with the parties and the separatist movements.
